Yes, I’ve moved house again. I’m beginning to feel like a gypsy since this is my third move in one year. Hopefully, the last… or at least I plan to stay here for a few years. I’ve moved away from the colourful – and very loud – town of Velez Malaga, back to the quieter and more greener pastures (that is, olive orchards) of the Alcaucin area. Although I was a ‘townie’ in the UK the lifestyle of Velez Malaga proved to be fatal to my 14 year old teenager, who started mixing with the wrong crowd, namely the local nearby gitanos.
The last 3 weeks have been bliss compared to the stressful last 8 months. Here in the hamlet of Los Morenos in the municipal of Alcaucin we are surrounded by mountains, olive orchards and just a couple of neighbours – both Spanish and English. Not quite in isolation since it is only a 4 minute drive down the mountain road to Puente don Manuel, the nearest small village where I used to live before up until this February.
I would love to attach a couple of photos to this post of my new abode…. but it won’t let me! I’m getting the message: Unable to create directory /home/bptest/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/2008/files/2009/12. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
So no more photos on this blog? *sobs sadly*. No worries though because either this is just a temporary hitch, or I will need to redirect all you readers to my photos website once I’ve posted the new home pics there. Or to Flickr? Or even better still, to my Webshots albums. I’ll check back here in a week or less…..

Please note that two of my Links, namely Spanish Landscapes (filled with photos) and Game Play (games reviews/links) are both temporarily “down”.

I’ve just been notified by e-mail that I have a new comment; unfortunately it was just spam. The good news is that it reminded me that I haven’t posted here for quite a while! The reasons are many, including (1) I’ve sold my beautiful villa with pool in the countryside and moved to a big Spanish-style town house smack in the middle of the “colourful” part of town (my next project is to write an e-book of my many adventures of the past two months!), (2) the last time I tried to log in to this blog it wouldn’t let me, and (3) two of my clients Wordpress sites – including a WordPress multi-blog – got hacked and its taken me a good couple of weeks liaising with the hosting companies to get it sorted out… hopefully permanently. Yes, I realise realistically that the sites are bound to get hacked again in the future, and the extra security measures I’ve had to take are a bit of a pain now for me when I need to work on the sites. My client said optimistically that being hacked means that the sites are becoming popular! That’s one way of looking at it I guess!
I’d love to write more, but I have work to do. At least I’ve now gotten myself into ‘writing mode’….
Note: I was just going to upload a couple of pics of my new surroundings, but the server won’t let me. *sobs* (Message says: Unable to create directory /home/bptest/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/2008/files//2009/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?).

I have now downloaded the BuddyPress trunk files ready to be installed on a new WPMU community site. I’m still having glitches at the moment with my host server, but hopefully the last of these will be resolved this coming week. Then I can start building on the WPMU site and add BuddyPress once I know that all is functioning properly. Looking forward to it.

My claim to fame
I have just visited Andreas Guibeb’s “The Wellathon Challenge“; this is a well-presented and informative site. I also liked the way he had presented his photos in a frame with captions. And hence this post… just to test that I’m able to do the same. It may sound strange to say this (particularly since I have been using WordPress since August of this year), but I was unaware that this caption feature existed, and of how useful and aesthetical the photos can look. I don’t remember seeing photos presented in this way in any other weblog I have visited. Thank you, Andreas, for making use of this feature and bringing it to our attention.

I’ve just visited PetOMundo and have to say that it is one of the best WPMU sites I’ve seen so far. And it’s integrated with BuddyPress. Go check it out for a wonderful example of how BuddyPress integrates with WPMU. Everything seems to be working so well, and I love the presentation. I now can’t wait to use BuddyPress on my sites. I was also surprised to note that PetOMundo ran smoothly when viewed on Internet Explorer.
I couldn’t resist posting this image of an “Australian red Collie” dog which was on the PetOMundo site (taken from Wilkipedia). The dog looks so much like my Harley… except he’s a non-pedigree mutt.
He would only jump through a hoop like that if there was always a piece of meat or a bone on the other side!

P.S My Visual Editor is working again today.

Ok, so I’m a busy person who is taking a break from designing a client’s WordPress MU site… a 5-10 minutes break, no more. And I remembered my BuddyPress weblog. I’ve spent a good couple of minutes just trying to get my mouse to hover AND CLICK in the right place to get into my Dashboard. Yes, I had to laugh when I realised that the design of the tabs made it virtually impossible to manoeuvre to the right place first time round. The last time I was patient enough to navigate with this sort of tabbing was when I desperately had to buy a computer peripheral at Maplins a few years ago (their site is more user-friendly nowadays). *Just noticed that my Visual Editor is not working, but I will look under Settings first before I complain about that too, since I would rarely use it anyway!* I spent the rest of my “break time” changing themes once again, and subsequently designing a new banner. Since I couldn’t think of anything else to do with this site, I’m now just writing this post. Another gripe is that there are too many themes to choose from… and only one plug-in! Or am I missing something.
If anyone gets to read this, let me know what else I can do here apart from just writing posts. Obviously I know that’s what blogging is all about, but I have other blogs for that purpose. What exactly am I supposed to be testing with Buddy Press? Just pointing out if there are any bugs? Or recommendations? Maybe that’s it.
It’s late; I’m tired (2.00am). Another post will follow when I get my energy back…

My first day messing about with BuddyPress. I’m going to have to browse some other blogs first before I can go further with this. I’m so used to customising… and here I can’t. *sheds small tear*
